Lynk & Co is a new brand created by Geely, the Chinese automaker that owns Volvo. It also makes cars that are sold to domestic customers. To put thinks in perspective, Lynk & Co falls between the Geely and Volvo brands much the way Buick falls between Chevrolet and Cadillac. At the Shanghai auto show this year, Lynk & Co took the wraps off its first sedan, known as the 03. Alan Visser, senior VP for the company told the press the car will come with a lifetime warranty and full connectivity.

The Lynk & Co 03 is a rather conventional looking sedan but the company is offering customers an unconventional buying and ownership experience. It will sell its cars online and deliver them directly to a customer’s home. It will also offer a subscription model patterned after those used with smartphone app services, according to Visser. “We will bring a unique offer of connected mobility, with the option to share your car, where everything is included. The key to everything we do is simplicity,” Visser said.

Lynk & Co plans to begin selling its SUV model, called the 01, in China in the fourth quarter of 2017. European and US sales are set to begin in the first quarter of 2019, a year later than originally planned. The 01 will be built on the same Compact Modular Architecture chassis as the upcoming Volvo V40 SUV and will be powered by a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor. There is no definitive word whether the hybrid will also have a plug-in feature.

The 01 and o3 are expected to offer an owner the option of sharing a vehicle with others. Using the available app, owners can generate virtual keys that allow others to operate them for a predetermined period of time and within preset geographical areas. That means the car should be back on time and parked where expected when the sharing period expires. A continuous internet connection to the car via Lynk & Co’s cloud services will allow for live updates on where the car is at all times.
