The hottest segment in motorcycling right now isn’t big-bore adventure tourers or over-the-road sofas, it’s mini motos. Small, fun, agile, and lightweight motorcycles like the Honda Grom that don’t require too much investment and don’t themselves too seriously but still deliver in terms of fuel economy and practicality. Following close behind the growing popularity of these bikes, however, is the coming onslaught of electrics– but Australian EV builder Fonzarelli has beaten the big four to the punch with a new, fun, bite-sized electric motorcycle called the NKD.

They’re billing it as, “Australia’s first locally designed, manufactured, and retail-ready emission-free motorbike,” and it perfectly captures a sort-of chunky, go-anywhere, urban styling trend that seems to be everywhere, at the moment. To Fonzarelli’s credit, though, they’ve managed to be on-trend while still feeling original– which probably has more to do with the novelty of an electric motorcycle than anything else.

That’s not to say that Fonzarelli’s NKD isn’t a worthy motorcycle in its own right. The bike is built around a 12 HP, brushless permanent magnet motor making more than 40 lb-ft of TQ. That power is transmitted through a single-speed belt drive back to the rear wheel in a system that’s efficient enough to ensure that the bike will hit its 50 MPH top speed from a standing start in less than five seconds. If my experience riding scooters and mopeds through downtown Chicago is any indication, that should be more than enough to make the NKD one of the fastest things out there. (!)

Take a look at some of Fonzarelli’s official press photos and specs, below, then tell us what you think of the little bike in the comments section at the bottom of the page. While you read through all that, though, keep in mind that the starting price for one of these is right around $7000 USD– and it just goes up from there as you up the specs and driving range. Think it’s worth it? Let us know!

NKD is the stripped back dual-sport mini-moto with serious fun-factor.

Agile handling and a lightweight, compact build, allows the rider to control the electrifying torque curve of the bike, making it perfect for cutting through the urban jungle.
