Tesla Model S Long Range Plus

If you had guessed the Tesla Model S Long Range Plus, you were correct! Tesla Model S is currently the only electric vehicle that has broken the 400-mile range barrier. It has an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rating of 402 miles in June 2020.

The Tesla Model S Long Range Plus is a full-size electric car with four doors. It is spacious, with a passenger capacity of five. The electric car is also one of the fastest accelerating cars in the world today, with a zero to sixty miles’ acceleration in less than four seconds.

The Model S was first introduced in 2012 with a range of 260 miles. Since then, Tesla has continuously improved its design to enhance its range and performance on the road. To reach the 402 mile EPA rating (by the Model S Long Range Plus), the following improvements were made to the 2019 Tesla Model S Long Range:

  • Maximized Regenerative Braking. Regenerative braking is the process of converting the energy expended during braking into electric energy that is stored in the battery. In combustion engine vehicles, the energy is lost as heat at the brake pads.
  • Mass Reduction. Tesla improved the quality of materials used for the Model S Long Range. This helped them minimize the weight of every component. The lighter the car, the farther it can travel.

Tesla has also announced plans to start producing an optimized Model S, which will be called the Model S Plaid. The car will come with 1100 horsepower, making it capable of going from zero to 60 mph in less and two seconds. The Model S Plaid will also have a range of about 520 miles.

Lucid Air: Coming Soon

Another car in production that plans to break the 400-mile range is the Lucid Air, which is supposed to debut in 2021. The car will be manufactured by Lucid Motors, an electric vehicle company founded in 2007. Lucid Air will be their flagship car with an estimated EPA rating above 500 miles.

The Lucid Air is a luxury four-door sedan with 1080 horsepower. Its designers intend for the Lucid Air to compete with Tesla Model S, the Porsche Taycan, BMW, Audi, and other luxury electric vehicle brands.

The prototype unveiled to the public in 2016 was fully functional, unlike Nikola’s Hydrogen fuel cell truck, which was alleged to have to have been rolled down a hill to deceive the public. So far, Lucid Motors have appeared legit, having closed an investment deal of $1 billion with Saudi Arabia. Lucid Motor’s production factory for Lucid Air is currently being built in Arizona, with rapid progress. I believe they should be able to meet up with their targeted mass production timeline of Spring 2021.
